Bestseller for a reason!
I was afraid I wouldn’t like the book given all of the hate online but this is an amazing story!! I love the characters and the storyline. I can’t wait for the second book and for the movie, I only hope the movie will live up to the book. I only wish the author would have used a plethora of wording, it seems that she reused phrases and adjectives often. Also, the narrator could have used more enthusiasm or emphasis at certain parts but otherwise did a great job! Would recommend this read/listen.

Great spam marketing, bad story
I find the whole story of how this book rose to fame pretty spectacular given that being published is a dream, and getting a movie deal is even bigger. But the story feels like a draft that needs to be revised, there isn’t enough bite and content to get you going; characters are not captivating, there’s no rollercoaster of emotions, no insane twists, and some of the revelations are not that shocking (the friendship betrayal) but it’s an easy read, a very yolky read.

Truly Captivating
I bought this book on a whim. I randomly bought it to spend my credits I had for the month. I didn't even look into what the book was about. This book had me invested from beginning to end. The world building, character development and plot was everything that I needed without knowing I needed it.

Loved it!
I have to admit I was really surprised by some of the negative reviews. I thought this story was fantastic! I guess I could say the ending was a tiny bit rushed and maybe a little confusing at first but I still really loved this book! I’m sure Alex Aster has plans for a second book because of how this one ended. I know it’s only going to get better and I’m really looking forward to it. Also, didn’t realize there’s rumors of this being a movie…. EEEK CANT WAIT!
Also, the narrator Suzy Jackson was phenomenal! I think she made the story even better. I want to listen to every book she narrates.

Fun listen, great narration
I liked the story, I enjoyed the narration, and the overall premise was interesting, my biggest complaint would be that it felt like character progression suffered in favor of moving the mystery forward. I would just start to enjoy a character and learning about them and then it would leave that alone.
Would recommend for people who enjoy fantasy, magic and mystery, romance is pretty low tier
